The BCS stands for Bowl Championship Series, a computer ranking format and bowl setup that has decided the unofficial but de facto NCAA Division I-A college football championship since 1998. The BCS has been criticized often, but was especially controversial in both the 2003-2004 and 2004-2005 seasons.
